- Jack 8 (Final)
Jack's finished portrait. 7" x 5", scratchboard with watercolor. Everything except the whiskers was scratched with a #16 X-Acto blade. I used a Slice ceramic cutting tool for the whiskers. The color in this image is more accurate than the previous one, it leans more toward magenta tones. - Jack 6
Ready for color! This version is softer than the previous, where I had added back black. I softened & blended that black with scratching. - "Safety" - Reference Photo
"Safety" The reference photo for a 7" x 5" scratchboard drawing - Jack 3
Some of the green from the eyes is scratched away so I could start layering color. A good portion of his fur is scratched at this stage too. Even though he's a black cat, I want texture and value changes in his fur, so much of it appears too light at this stage. That will get knocked back with washes of blue-grey watercolor in various shades once I've finished all the scratching. - Canada Goose
Look closely, there's a little yellow head in there :-) Ottawa NWR - Ottawa, OH - View Through the School House Window
- Jack 5
Darkest areas added with a tech pen. The texture of those areas still looks a little "chunky", but I'll blend that out with some scratching. - Old-School Electrical Box
Definitely not to PG&E specs. - View Through a Window
- Jack 2
First pass of color on his eyes, plenty of scratching left to do on the rest of him. - Church
- Hanna 1
Hanna the Harrier (breed of Hound), in progress. 5" x 7" scratchboard Reference photo provided by my client. I started with the railing to be sure it was headed in the direction I wanted, then began scratching on Hanna. - Hanna 8 (Final)
This is the final Hanna the Harrier (hound) 5" x 7" scratchboard commission Reference photo provided by client. Scratched with a #16 X-Acto, colored with watercolor (dog & railing) & color pencil (railing) - View Through a Window
I liked the textures and lighting on the wall behind the window. - K9 Yukon - #1
Just getting started ... Plenty left to do at this point, but good progress.
