It's Been a Year . . .
.
. . since my last official e-newsletter! Time flies, and a lot has
happened in that year. I've sent out show invites and workshop info
to my local subscribers, and a holiday message at the end of 2015,
but hadn't written a newsletter for all of my subscribers.
To stay informed on a more regular basis, please visit my Facebook
page. It's a public page, so you don't need an account
to view it. You'll find frequent updates and plenty of work in progress
posts.
I hope that you had a wonderful 2015 and that 2016 is treating you
well so far!
Boston
Terrier in Japan
Art
Licensed for Use on Suzuki Cars
In
April of 2015, I was contacted by a representative of Hakuhodo, Inc.,
Japan's oldest advertising and marketing firm, regarding the possibility
of using "Boston Style" on special edition Suzuki "Alto"
cars. After many emails, contract negotiations, and countless forms,
the drawing has been re-created as one of a series of optional decals
available for the tailgate of the mini hatchback.
This was a fascinating adventure, to say the least, and I'm thrilled
that this drawing has gone international!
Visit my web
page for the full story, including the press release,
an article that ran in the Sacramento Bee, and a video of an Alto
with the art at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show.
ISSA
Exhibition
Annual
Gathering and Show
Since
the ISSA
(International Society of Scratchboard Artists) was formed in 2012,
we have had four Exhibitions. Each gathering occurs in a different
location and I have been fortunate to attend each one. In addition
to a show of nothing but scratchboard work (an amazing sight not to
be missed), we have two days of workshops where various members share
their techniques, ideas and tips. The 2015 Exhibition was in Frederick
MD in July, and it was every bit as enjoyable as past gatherings have
been. I submitted two works for the show, both were accepted, and
I was thrilled and honored that "K9
Ronin" received an Award of Excellence.
"Jackpot!",
a tufted titmouse, was the other accepted piece. It came back from
MD, and is now on its way to the LSU "Animals
in Art" exhibition.
WAOW
Exhibition
Annual
Gathering and
Show
It
was a great year for traveling to enjoy the company of fellow artists.
In November, I flew to Tucson for the annual Women
Artists of the West (WAOW) Exhibition. I've been a member
of WAOW for two years, but this was my first opportunity to attend
an event. I had never been to Tucson either, so it was a weekend of
new discoveries. I entered two scratchboard pieces in the show and
both were accepted. Both of these drawings returned home from the
show, and the chrome quail will be heading to Tucson again soon, for
this year's ISSA show.
